Flying Jellyfish and Other strange happenings
We did promise photos this time around now didn’t we? The photo you see here, was sent in by James Keating, of Washington State and I would like to thank you Mr. Keating for providing this photo and information. Mr. Keating was also kind enough to fill out our reporting from as well, and shared his unique views of this phenomenon.

A larger version of this photo will appear on Jason’s www.flyingrods.com site but we kept it small here so the download time wouldn’t take forever.
1. What time of the year was your sighting, year, month and day, time of day?
It was fall, late November, 2001, early afternoon
2. What is your best estimate of the object’s size, and what are you basing your estimate on?
About one and half feet long. (No longer than an OAL of three feet max)
Estimate based upon the persons watching this thing hover over me as they took the pic.
3. How long did you maintain visible contact with object?
Less than two minutes
4. If more then one object, how did they relate to each other?
Spheres run in threes about 60% of the time. Rods operate independently (solo fliers). Usually where be spheres (orbs) there be rods too, as was our case.
5. What was the temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction?
Temp: about 48F / wind: fairly strong wind- Blowing south (from North)
6. Where did the sighting occur?
WA
7. How many people saw the object?
Three People / central vision does not work / Use peripheral scanning methods, that can pick them up / eyes wide (like using a Childs "magic eye" book)
8. How fast would you estimate the object/objects were traveling?
Sometimes slow, and then FAST!
9. What color was the object?
At speed color is difficult. Spheres are often glowy, glittery.
The rods are less visible, more "sensed" by normal folks. These rods have a particularly strong "intent". They have do red highlights in them, generally a dark color.
10. How far away was the object?
About twenty feet over me and about thirty feet from the photographer.
10. Describe the shape of the object?
The shape is clear in the photo. Rods appear corkscrew like. They are aggressive.
They can penetrate (enter) the body. (It's why so many primitive cultures cover their mouths when they laugh or sneeze. It is a reason to say "God Bless you" when you sneeze.) On the other hand, some tribes encourage their entry-union.
12. What type of vegetation, types of trees, shrubs, grasses etc were present in the area of the
sighting?
Scrub brush, desert environment, no trees, sagebrush....
13. Were the trees, grasses and/or shrubs in flower or heavy with fruit?
It was mid-winter. The sacred plants are not ready then.
14. Were other animals/insects observed during the sighting?
Several white tail Deer watched us as we watched them as the flier was hovering near watching all.
15. Are there any caves or other unique geolographical formations in the area of the sighting?
Yes, a cave filled with an very unique green, translucent rock... Green Jasper? Quite unique until some rockhound tried to extract a large piece via a charge of Dyn-O-mite, fractured the large percent of the stone.
16. Are they any military installations in the area or high-tension power lines?
No power lines, but it is in an area where there is some type of radar installation about ten miles away (its a nuke res..they have that stuff)
17. Have you every heard of anyone else having a similar sighting in this area?
Yes. This is a known place.
18. Were you making, or did you hear any noises prior to or during the sighting, please describe?
No noises.
19. Are there any photos of the object? If so please attach copies and restrictions or
permission to post.
You have a photo of this particular instance. I can probably send a better, Hi-res image if ye would like.
20. If unsure about a certain detail, what detail would that be and why?
Angle of flight-hovering
Flight seems to be an easy thing, any angle etc
But, when hovering, (stationary) rods will almost ALWAYS be at 45 degree cant-angle. The rod in the pic you have is poised over me, it is attempting to make contact. And did.
21. Please add as many other details as you can remember or feel could be important.
This spot is a Native American vision-quest site from the ancient times. Oral Tribal History tells us about this place. These beings tend to gather in such places. geomag influences seem to be related.
Cheers !
James
Now some of what Mr. Keating shared here has also been told to me from other people as well. James Bratter has strongly suggested to me that these “entities” have the ability to enter into solid objects. We have a photo from Mr. Bratter "Entity/Rods/UFO'S" that seems to indicate that exact behavior on the flyingrods site. In an upcoming newsletter we will explore Haunted houses and their connection with the entity phenomenon. In cases where paranormal activity has taken place we have also seen evidence that these entities can enter into solid objects.
This along with other aspects of Mr. Keating’s report indicates to me he is sincere and honest. The details such as the ability to “hover” is not something most people report in connection with entities, however there are a number of eye witness reports that confirm the same behavior that Mr. Keating has reported here. We have also noticed this 45-degree cant in several other photos sent to us from visitors to the site. All of which as really perked my interest in this sighting report.
In short if someone were going to fake a report, they would tend to lack the details and the photographic evidence that we are provided with here. The fact there were other witnesses that observed these objects and the fact of this information being recorded in the oral history of the native tribes leads me to believe this is worthy of more study. The photo was taken with a digital camera of a stationary object so the video protocol is a mute point here.
We must look at the data here and we have to take into account the eyewitnesses seeing the same “image” as was recorded by the camera. This seems to me to be a most remarkable sighting coupled with believable testimony and we should have additional information from Mr. Keating at a later date. Another interesting detail in this sighting was the mention of orbs.
We were sent another entity photo from a different person and while studying it I noticed several orb images. I do not know what caused them but I did find it to be quite a coincident.
Gareth Lodge sent in this next photo from the UK and thank you Gareth for sending it to us. He was in Portugal two years ago when he took this photograph of his wife with an entity passing behind her arm.

Now I have included it here because it is a good photo. A flash was used which means most likely the shutter speed was around 1/60 of a second and therefore subjected to blurring but the flash should have frozen the action. The color of the object is a beautiful golden yellow.
So perhaps some experiments will need to be done to see if under similar conditions would one get a blurred image or an image reflective of the real shape of the moving object (hint, hint to anyone interested). If the flash had a strobe effect and if this is the true form of this object then it would demand more study.
My feeling is that this is not an insect/rodsect for the simply reason that a camera flash illuminates for only 1/10,000 of a sec or so. If I am mistaken please let us know, but if that was the case then what ever this object is, it would have been frozen in time and would indeed be reflective of the true shape of the object.
Is it a rodsect or an entity is hard to tell, but we are collecting images and hopefully as we progress positive ID’s can be made. It may turn out that entities can leave images similar to those that insects leave. My belief is that this is an entity of some nature and not a rodsect but perhaps Mr. Harris or some other individual can provide a different explanation and send it to us.
Perhaps both have similar shapes and therefore are subject to the same morphing that rodsects are subject to. The color of this one seems unique to me as most rodsects are dark in color and do not have this light sheen this one possesses, then again what do I know.
This next photo contains an entity image as well as several orbs visible near the trunks of the palm trees. We wish to thank Mr. Frasier for sharing this one with us. I found this photo to be extremely interesting. We haven’t received the details on this one yet, so aspects such as shutter speeds are currently unknown. Yes I suppose you could argue this is a rodsect or it could be something stranger.

The most likely explanation for the orb images seen around the trunk of the palm trees is bits of sand from the beach having found their way onto the lens of the camera and by reflecting incoming light waves we are left with some strange orb images.
The entity image is more difficult to explain and frankly it leaves me completed perplexed. It appears to be some distance away from the camera and in fact appears to pass behind the palm trees. If this assumption is correct then we have a most bizarre object, streaking pass the FOV in this photo. We are very grateful that Mr. Fraser provided us with this photo.
For a peak at a very rare photograph of a sky dwelling Jellyfish go to this link. http://www.anomalies-unlimited.com/Jellyfish.html This is one of those sites where you just keep finding more and more stuff to look at. The webmistess is named Rahni and she puts out a newsletter well worth reading. The site is filled with the strange and wonderful but the jellyfish was what really caught my eye.
A visitor to the site BTW posted this link but somehow I lost their address. We would like to thank who ever sent this in, as this is the type of stuff we need to examine. Rahni also has this link on her site and if anyone out there cares to examine this one and give up a rational explanation we would really like to hear it. It sure seems to me that something is passing behind the twin towers just before collapse and what ever it is; is really moving. http://www.anomalies-unlimited.com/WTC_UFO.html
If I haven’t already bored you to tears you can read more of my babble on the Fortean Times web site with an exclusive paper posted on their site here.

We would like to end by sharing this letter sent to us from Michael in Toronto Canada. He makes several very good points and I found it enlightening. Thank you Michael for contacting us.

Sighting Date:11/5/2002Not a sighting. read: hey there...I tried to email you at your
flyingrods site but i dont think it worked. dont stop looking.
remember that the debunkers are exactly the same as the
proponents: they are both boiling it down to their own
opinion. we know nothing really. we think we are so smart and
yet so did every civilization that preceded us. and where are
they now? i guess what im trying to say is that anything is
possible and we dont have this all sussed out. so keep
looking. some of those pics looked like bugs and yet some were
very strange. i have a hard time believing that those perfect
spirals are supposed to be bees. i work in tv so i understand
the explanation. but have you ever seen a bee fly? its far
from streamlined. especially when hovering around a hive. and
bees dont fly anywhere near 40mph. i give you this link and
quote: Bees are not fast fliers; while their wings beat over
11,000 cycles per minute, their flight speed averages only 15
miles per hour. In comparison, a true fly in the genus
Forcipomyia beats its wings over 62,000 cycles per minute. The
Australian dragonfly Austrophlebia costalis has been clocked
flying at a speed of 36 mph.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/bees/buzz.html now i do think
some of those actually look like dragonflies but not all.
especially the spiralling ones. and do dragonflies hang out
around beehives? i dont know. but i wouldnt think so, at least
not very often. what you need to do is take footage to someone
totally impartial. just ask them what they think it is. dont
plant a seed. just say "can you explain this?." then wait and
see. you yourself know some of those are just plain weird. but
then thats why your site is up and running....... Michael
Yep, you are right we are far from having all the answers. We will continue to collect, interview and debate this until it is resolved. Stay tuned for in the next issue we will have more photos as well as some unbelievable testimony from more eyewitnesses.
